PS. There is a super fun “locked room” type of event happening at the Zoo on May 25, 2024. This is a two hour adventure where you must crack codes, solve puzzles and unlock secrets before the time runs out. More details here! Cost is $50 and this is for adults only (ages 18+).
2. Take a Walk or Bike Ride Along the Bow River
As the temperatures warm up, take advantage of Calgary’s extensive network of pathways by biking or walking along the scenic Bow River. The pathways are perfect for a leisurely day out in the fresh air, offering stunning views of the city and the natural landscapes. Stop by Prince’s Island Park for a picnic or to catch one of the many impromptu performances by local artists.
3. Visit Heritage Park Historical Village
Travel back in time at Heritage Park, Canada’s largest living history museum. With more than 180 attractions and exhibits from the 1860s to the 1950s, it’s a captivating way to learn about Alberta’s history. In May, the park is less crowded, providing a more relaxed experience to enjoy the antique midway rides, historical buildings, and steam-engine train.
On May 25 & 26, Heritage Park is hosting Western Canada’s largest quilt show. There will be hundreds of miraculous quilts, special workshops, and tons of merchants selling quilts as well. Details here!
5. Food Festivals
Caesar lovers should not miss the Calgary Caesar Festival, held on May long weekend at Big Four Building. Enjoy a weekend of sampling over 40 caesars, local food, craft beer, Caesar merch & goods.and a ton of fun. It's a fantastic opportunity to mingle with locals and enjoy some of the best brews available.
The Highfield Food & Beverage Market Fest is happening the same weekend at City & Country Winery. This is their second annual FREE event and will offer tons of local vendors and local businesses so you can try their food and beverage items!

5. Attend the Saskatoon Farm Blossom Festival
Are you a sucker for beautiful flowers during the spring? Check out the Saskatoon Farm’s spring market! There will be tons of beautiful flowers from the orchard for you to explore and many local vendors for you to shop from. Happening May 25 and 26 at The Saskatoon Farm.
6. Check Out the Farmer's Markets
As local produce comes into season, Calgary’s farmer's markets begin to thrive. Markets like the Calgary Farmers’ Market offer fresh, local goods ranging from artisan cheeses to hand-made crafts. It’s a great way to support local businesses while enjoying fresh food.
PS. Granary Road Market located south of Calgary is offering Goat Yoga this summer! The dates for May are all sold out but if you want to try this out, they have some availability in June, July or August!

I know this is not for the month of May, but I had to include this because I’m a sucker for this event. Kick off the month of June by attending the beloved Lilac Festival on 4 Street SW between 12th Avenue and & Elbow Drive SW on June 2nd 10am - 6pm. This one-day event marks the beginning of Calgary’s vibrant summer season. With streets lined with bands, vendors, food trucks, and performers, the Lilac Festival is a perfect outing for families, couples, and singles alike. Enjoy the lively atmosphere, shop from local artisans, and savour diverse culinary delights.
